The Ulster song Fuígfidh Mise an Baile Seo is about a woman who has made a bad match. She married young for money and her older husband is a miser who won’t even let her out to Mass on feast days, let alone take her to the ale-house for a drink. She says it’s a pity that people who are dissatisfied in marriage can’t go to the fair and trade partners the way they can sheep and cattle. Indeed!
